Concept
: - |
| |
According
to the water quality evaluation made and validated up
to March 2003 by the Government of Rajasthan and International
Development agency, the drinking water sources in 11909
villages (34.32%) out of 34699 surveyed villages (of
37889 total villages) and 11388 other habitations (32.65%)
out of 34871 surveyed other habitations (of 56057) total
other habitations have been found to contain fluoride
more than 1.5 ppm. Aseed's intervention with the support
of PHED & UNICEF in the district of Nagpur is way
forward to fight the above concern. Nagpur district
is situated between 26.50 & 27.40 North Latitude
& 73.10 & 75.15 East Longitude. |
 |
Focus
: - |
| |
High
concentration of Fluorides have been established as
causing not only dental but skeltal and non skeltal
fluorides as well. The hazards resulting from consumption
of such water include physical and physiological inpairment
and result in untold socio-economic miseries of the
affected population. The lost man-days result is not
only an economic loss to the work-force but also total
dissolved solids and nitrates in ground complicate and
accentuate fluoride ridden problem many fold and thus
require specialized treatment for different environment.
The present levels of water quality deterioration is
likely to be enhanced due to increasing withdrawl of
water, poor recharging and large scale. |

Water
Purification Programme |
|
| |
The
problem of excessive fluoride in drinking water can be
solved by any one of the following alternatives -
»
Providing portable water from nearest available reliable
surface source.
»
Defluoridation-either at community/source level or at
domestic level. |
| |
The
special focus of program is educating women household
to initiate safe drinking water and hygiene habits.
The project comparises of distribution of domestic de-fluorodization
units to BPLs and APLs located in the selected districtsof
Nagore (Didwana & Jayal Blocks). The SHG groups to
be trained regarding use of DDFU kits for mitigation
of fluoride in drinking water. So that, they can use
the DDFU kits and maintain accordingly. Also establishing
regeneration centres for recouping chemicals for regeneration
purpose, so that periodically they can be replaced in
DDFU kits. |

Aseed's
Intervention in Enhancing Water Quality : - |
| |
| » |
Baseline
study conducted in villages above 5.00 ppm in
the district of Rajasthan. |
| » |
Community
based animators development for long term sustainability. |
| » |
Creation
of regeneration centres. |
| » |
Socio
economic and life condition assessment of BPL
families in the selected villages. |
| » |
Distribution
of DDFU kits to BPL family. |
| » |
Promotion
and sales of water treatment kits. |
| » |
Strengthening
and capacity building of grassroot institutions. |
| » |
Advocacy
and awareness programmes. |
| » |
I.E.C.
material exposure, street plays etc. |
|
 |
Outcomes
: - |
| |
This
project has started in 2006 and more than 500 DDFUS have
been distributed in the villages. Villages having fluoride
content from 3 PPM to 5 PPM were distributed with more
than 50 DDFUS. |
