Haryana
Community Forestry |
|
 |
Concept
: - |
| |
In
Haryana the community forestry project (European Union)
which Aseed was being implemented since 2002, covering
20 villages in five blocks of Haryana and has formed
37 self-reliant SHGs (including three of men) capacity
of rural communities, was undertaken to improve the
natural environment and maintain land fertility through
sustainable management of natural resources. 11 farmer
workshops were organized to do so. Apart from that,
skill training to 100 women about the various allied
agricultural IGAs was imparted. As a result, nearly
90% members of the SHGs have taken up one IGA or the
oher. As part of the IEC strategy, 15 theme camps
and two exposure visits were organized benefiting
nearly 600 women. The savings of women crossed the
figure of Rs 6 lakh in six months and there was inter-loaning
of Rs. 9 lakh.

Focus
: - |
| |
Our
focus remained concentrated on the health and wealth
of the people. We want to improve their economic status
and have to give some strength for fighting with social
evils and train their children to be good citizens.
They also fight against evils like drinking, gambling,
dowry etc. Intensive efforts of Swa-Shakti project in
Haryana, in partnership with the Department of Women
& Child Development, Govt. of Haryana, made a significant
impact. |
 |
Approaches
: - |
| |
The
main role of Aseed has been pivotal to encourage convergence
of development process at the community level. The role
of Wold Bank partnership with state agencies was also
quite supportive to make a difference. Women in Haryana
are traditionally conservative and as a result are socially
backward. Literacy among the women is also low. It is
a male-dominated society. Hence, when the Aseed team
first approached the villages for community mobilization
and Self-Help Group formation, they had to fight many
odds. |
 |
Outcomes
: - |
| |
There
were various difficulties and hindrances in mobilizing
the rural women, but the persistent efforts of the Aseed
field staff bore fruit and today there is a real change
in the rural society and the place of women in the society
is much better and as a result of this they are much more
confident now. |
